Where to Watch Christmas Movies in 2026: Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ & More

A cozy Christmas movie night with a vintage Santa scene on the television.

Don’t cannonball into Christmas. Your streaming guide and game plan for the perfect holiday movie season.

By Anthony Famiglietti · Anthony On Air · U.S. guide checked November 2, 2026

Looking for Christmas movies on Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, Peacock or Paramount+? Start with the streaming guide below, then build a Christmas movie marathon that lasts the whole holiday season. This guide separates movies included with a subscription, free movies with ads, and announced releases that have not arrived yet.

My holiday movie philosophy is simple: dip your toe in the water. You cannot cannonball into Christmas. We have nearly two months of this. If you go straight from taking down a plastic skeleton to watching every all-time favorite in one weekend, what are you doing on December 18? Staring at a tree and pretending you haven’t already peaked?

This is how I like to build the season: easy holiday romances first, a little neighborhood chaos next, then the movies that make it officially Christmas. And yes, we need to talk about where Home Alone belongs. At the top. That’s where it belongs.

The quick answer: where are the big Christmas movies streaming?

Home Alone and The Santa Clause are on Disney+. Netflix has Klaus and The Christmas Chronicles. Elf is on Prime Video and HBO Max. HBO Max also has Christmas Vacation, Four Christmases, Christmas with the Kranks and Just Friends. Peacock lists the animated The Grinch (2018). Paramount+ has Scrooged and White Christmas. Hulu has announced Four Christmases, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story and The Polar Express for November 20, 2026. Those Hulu dates are arrivals, not a claim that the films are there today.

My perfect Christmas movie season: a little restraint, a lot of popcorn

November 2–15: dip your toe in

Start with the comfortable, low-pressure holiday romances. Lacey Chabert is ready for us. Melissa Joan Hart is ready for us. These women have been keeping fictional small towns in business for years; the least we can do is show up for a shift. Watch Christmas at Castle Hart on Hallmark+ or Mistletoe in Montana on Hulu.

Then bring in Deck the Halls (2006), Christmas with the Kranks and Surviving Christmas. These are my warm-up movies: recognizable Christmas energy without immediately spending every last bit of nostalgia. Danny DeVito turning the neighborhood into an electrical incident is an excellent way to stretch before the main event.

And Surviving Christmas is the Ben Affleck and James Gandolfini movie. If you’ve been calling it “the one with Ben Affleck and Tony Soprano,” we have now successfully located it. Prime Video’s November 1 list includes it; JustWatch also lists a free-with-ads YouTube route. Kranks is on HBO Max; Deck the Halls (2006) has Philo, the paid AMC+ Amazon Channel and a free-with-ads Plex option. Check the year: Amazon’s November list also contains a different Deck the Halls from 2011.

November 16–30: Four Christmases means we’re getting serious

Four Christmases is the turn for me. We’ve stopped casually browsing the holiday shelf. We’re in it now. The family logistics alone qualify as seasonal conditioning. You think you’re planning a nice day; suddenly you’re negotiating four houses, three opinions and someone’s extremely specific casserole expectations.

Follow it with Just Friends. It’s Christmasy, but it also has romance, embarrassment and the emotional experience of returning to your hometown and immediately becoming your worst former self. It makes a great bridge into the full holiday lineup. Both are listed on HBO Max; Four Christmases is also announced for Hulu on November 20.

A little Thanksgiving detour

Before we go full Christmas, we need to pause for Thanksgiving. People can argue about Thanksgiving movies all they want, but if you’re skipping Home for the Holidays and Planes, Trains and Automobiles, you’re missing an essential part of the season. This is the bridge from dipping our toe in the water to turning the corner and getting serious.

My non-negotiable is Home for the Holidays (1995). I do not go a year without watching it. I’ll say it: this is Robert Downey Jr.’s greatest performance. You can bring your entire Marvel argument; I’m bringing Thanksgiving dinner. It’s packed with heart, family chaos and the kind of nostalgia that turns a movie into a tradition. Some films remind you of a holiday. This one feels like coming home for it, right down to loving people who are absolutely going to test you before dessert.

Jodie Foster directs a cast that includes Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr., Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, Geraldine Chaplin, Dylan McDermott and Claire Danes. That’s a table full of heavy hitters before anybody has even passed the potatoes. Make time for it this Thanksgiving. This is the one I most want you to watch.

Then watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987). Steve Martin and John Candy trying to get home for Thanksgiving is a classic for a reason. Watch it before your own holiday travel and you’ll either feel better about the trip or start looking very carefully at the rental-car paperwork. Together, these two give you the laughs, the gratitude and the emotional reset before December’s Christmas movie marathon.

Where to watch in the U.S.: Home for the Holidays is listed on Paramount+ and MGM+, with a YouTube Free option with ads. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is listed on Paramount+ and Peacock. Rentals are offered separately by Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango at Home. An MGM+ channel subscription is separate from base Prime. Both films are aimed at an older audience: Home for the Holidays is PG-13; Planes, Trains and Automobiles is R. December 1–15: bring out the heavy hitters

Now it’s time for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The Santa Clause, Elf, The Muppet Christmas Carol and Scrooged. This is the section of the season when you can confidently tell everyone you’re “staying in tonight” and mean you’re busy.

I like to save Christmas Vacation for a night when the household has had enough real-life holiday organization. Somehow watching Clark Griswold lose control makes your own tangled lights feel like a minor administrative issue. Put The Santa Clause into a family night and save Scrooged for the crowd that wants its holiday spirit with some bite.

December 16–25: protect your favorites

For me, Home Alone is the greatest Christmas movie. That’s my opinion, and I’m prepared to spend an unreasonable amount of time defending it. Give it an actual movie night. The good snacks. Phones down. Nobody “just checking something” for the entire middle of the film.

Follow with Home Alone 2: Lost in New York when you want more of that world. Keep a little space for an old favorite like White Christmas or It’s a Wonderful Life, and leave at least one night unplanned. The goal is to enjoy Christmas, not earn a certificate in Advanced Holiday Viewing.

Christmas movies for kids: choose the movie that fits the night

My kids love the animated The Grinch (2018), and Tyler, the Creator’s contribution to the soundtrack gives the grown-ups something to enjoy too. It’s a good choice when you want a colorful, energetic holiday movie. Budget roughly an hour and a half; leave room for the snack negotiations. Peacock’s listing rounds it to 90 minutes, while Apple’s movie listing lists 86 minutes.

For a shorter evening, go with a special or short rather than squeezing a feature into bedtime: A Charlie Brown Christmas or The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse on the Apple TV subscription. They’re labeled separately in this guide because a half-hour special and a feature film solve different parenting problems. Check ratings and previews for your own kids, especially for darker Christmas Carol adaptations.

Christmas movies by streaming service in the United States

How to read this guide: “Now” means a current U.S. catalog listing or an official arrival date on or before November 2. A dated entry is an announced future arrival. Subscription entries are separate from rentals and paid channel add-ons. Free-with-ads services may interrupt the movie with commercials. This is a curated guide to major services and useful favorites, not every Christmas title in every catalog. Availability can change; open the linked source and confirm the offer before pressing play. The two Thanksgiving films are labeled as a detour.

Spend your time watching, not hunting for the play button

Make a watchlist in the services you already have before adding another subscription. If only one movie is missing, compare a one-time rental with the cost of another month of streaming. Amazon’s store, Prime Video subscriptions and paid channels can all appear in the same search. An Amazon listing alone does not mean “included with Prime.” The Apple TV app similarly mixes subscription programming with store offers.

Want free Christmas movies? Tubi, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel are useful starting points. The catalog changes, and “free” usually means ads. Library services such as Hoopla and Kanopy can offer another route to selected movies, including Christmas with the Kranks, depending on your participating library. Don’t promise the entire group a film until you’ve checked your own account.

One date worth keeping: Apple has announced December 12–13, 2026 as the free streaming window for A Charlie Brown Christmas. Subscribers can watch it outside that window too. Apple’s announcement.

Christmas movie streaming FAQ

Where can I stream Home Alone in the United States?

Disney+ lists Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Separate rental and channel offers are not necessarily included with Prime.

Is Christmas Vacation on Hulu in 2026?

Hulu announces National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for November 20, 2026. HBO Max has a current U.S. subscription listing as of November 2.

Where can I watch Four Christmases and Just Friends?

Both have current HBO Max subscription listings. Hulu announces Four Christmases for November 20. Choose the 2005 Ryan Reynolds film when searching for Just Friends.

Is The Grinch on Peacock?

Peacock lists the animated Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (2018), separate from the 1966 special and the 2000 Jim Carrey movie.

When should I start watching Christmas movies?

My answer: right after Halloween, with lighter romances and comedies. Build toward Four Christmases, then bring out the classics in December.
