Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Steve Ipsen joined us to talk about District Attorney Steve Cooley’s mishandling the law when it comes to Sexually Violent Predators. Our children and citizens deserve protection from Sexually Violent Predators (SVPs). We need to keep these criminals locked up. These deviant individuals prey on our children on a daily basis. They seek them out and steal their innocence or worse to feed their need for violence and sexual gratification.

On September 20, 2006 the legislature voted to pass SB 1128 making the term for Sexually Violent Predators an indeterminate or “life” term, replacing the old 2 year commitment term. Additionally, Attorney General Jerry Brown found that the Jessica’s Law provision could and should be enforced by California’s 53 DAs in all 53 counties. California Appellate Courts that have long since ruled that the proper sentence for Sexually Violent Predators is in fact an indeterminate or “life” sentence. NOT 2 years. And PROP 83 expressed the overwhelming desire of the people when it passed by over 70%; or 5 million voters.

DA Steve Cooley is ignoring the will of the people and the will of the legislature. We need to protect our children.
