Karma: Score One for Our Side

Karma is a funny thing. Most people refer to it only when they’ve done something good or the OTHER person has done something bad. I’ll confess, I’ve secretly wished that bad things happen to bad people. That’s why this news story reported by the AP on May 5, 2008 was just too perfect to pass up. If you’ve ever had someone flip you the bird unjustly, you’ll appreciate this story. A young Long Island man on a motorcycle flipped the bird to a police officer sitting in his squad car while parked on the side of the road. He then popped a wheelie and speed away. The police gave chase for the dangerous behavior (not the bird though in my humble opinion, disrespect to authority is the first sign of truancy). The squad car called for help by another squad car patrolling in the area. In his desire to evade police the motorcyclist did not notice the squad car in front of him and proceeded to crash directly into the police car. He was fine (he only suffered minor injuries). And while I did not wish him physical harm, it’s good to know that he was arrested and charged for fleeing police, resisting arrest, and various traffic violations he committed along the way. To me this not just a victory for Long Island police but for all who have ever been the recipients of an undeserved middle finger. Sleep well tonight. Karma has created balance once again in the universe.
