In God We Trust

A.P. Reported Sunday, May 4, 2008 that a man went in front of a judge to allow him to legally change his name. No, he doesn’t want to change his name to his wife’s maiden name, this guy wants to change is name to “In God We Trust.” I’ll pause here and wait for you to stop laughing … done yet? I’ll wait a little longer … this one’s a doosie. He’s a seemingly normal 57 year old man, from all accounts, but his big fear is that atheists will be successful in removing “In God We Trust” from all US Currency. As a way to counter that, he wants to have his name changed to preserve it. I guess, that might work for a while, but he will die someday and oops there goes the name again. Maybe he could be like Prince. Prince was a famous musician-singer who for a while was known as a symbol. When that didn’t work, he went by The Artist Formally Known as Prince. Now he is just Prince again. So I guess, if the courts do not allow this 57 year old man to change his name to “In God We Trust”, then may I suggest trying to be known as the symbol “$”. He could later become “The Bus Driver Who Was Never Known As In God We Trust.” Oh, did I overlook that minor detail? He is a school bus driver for a Chicago suburb. My suggestion to Chicago parents … drive your kids to school yourself.
