Superdelegates and Cash.
Boston.com reported that thousands of Dollars have been given to Elected Officials, who also happen to hold the future nominee of the Democratic Party in their hands, in the form of Campaign contributions. Over the last 3 years or so, both the Clinton camp and the Obama camp have given, the article claims, $890,000. A study by the Non-Partisan Center for Responsive Politics found Obama’s political action committee giving more than $694,000 to superdelegates and Clinton’s political action committee had given $195,000. I know that friends help friends and sometimes the fastest way to evoke the spirit of reciprocity is to give first. That is certainly not illegal nor is it immoral. But should the rules of business apply to a process that is supposed to be dedicated to the pursuit of the will of the people, not the will of party operatives. Money may not make the world go around, but it does pay for the guy who twirls it. Democracy should not lie in the balance of big political fundraisers, lobbists or party operatives. Democracy clearly puts the weight of the fate of political leaders in the peoples hands. Let’s keep it that way.
