Expectations
In my business coaching and life coaching practices I apply many of the principles used in sports psychology. Let’s consider the concept of expectations. If you follow baseball at all, you know that the Yankees were struggling in the beginning of the year. They were 14.5 games behind the Red Sox and didn’t seem to have clear focus in their games. As we come to the close of the season we find our Yankees only a game and half away from the Red Sox. They take to the field like they own it and they are on what many would call a hot streak.
When asked about how his team is playing, the Yankee manager attributed their success to the change in the attitude and expectations of the team. He said, “Now when we come to the ballpark we expect to win, its a nice feeling.”
Expectations are everything. Expecting to win, speaks of confidence, desire and a clear mental picture of what is supposed to happen during the game. Have a clear picture of the outcome you expect. Dream it. See it. Set your mind to the task and do what is necessary to make it happen. By the end of the game, you’ll be the winner.
